Bank Mergers and IFSC Changes in India

Current Status of Old IFSC Codes
Following the mega-amalgamation of Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) banks directed by the Government of India and the RBI, all legacy IFSC codes belonging to dissolved banks have been fully retired. Remitters must use the newly designated IFSC codes issued by the respective anchor banks to avoid transaction rejections.

What Account Holders Must Do
1. Replace Legacy Cheque Books
Cheque leaves bearing discontinued pre-merger bank names or retired MICR bands will be rejected by the Cheque Truncation System (CTS). Request a fresh cheque book from your anchor bank.
2. Update Inward Direct Credits (NACH / ECS)
Update your branch IFSC code with employers, mutual fund platforms, insurance providers, and government pension portals (e.g., EPFO) to prevent payout failures.
